How to Make Turmeric Infused Goat Milk Soap

Sharing is caring!

Goat milk soap is known for its skin-nourishing properties, and when combined with turmeric-infused olive oil and sweet orange essential oil, it becomes an ultimate treat for your skin. Turmeric is well-regarded for its anti-inflammatory and brightening properties, while goat milk provides deep hydration. If you’re looking to create a luxurious, all-natural soap, follow this step-by-step guide.

Ingredients:

Safety First!

Before starting, always wear protective gear, including safety goggles, gloves, a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Work in a well-ventilated area.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Prepare the Lye Solution

  • Measure the lye and distilled water separately.
  • Place ice cubes of distilled water into a heat-resistant container.
  • Slowly pour the lye over the ice cubes and stir gently with a rubber spatula until fully dissolved.
  • Set aside and allow it to cool to 80-90°F.

2. Melt the Butters

  • In a heat-resistant glass bowl, combine coconut oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter.
  • Melt them in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Alternatively, use a water bath method.
  • Once mostly melted, stir until completely liquified.

3. Prepare the Oils and Goat Milk

  • In a separate bowl (stainless steel, glass, or plastic), combine turmeric-infused olive oil, avocado oil, and castor oil.
  • Add the goat milk and blend well using an immersion blender.

4. Combine the Ingredients

  • Once both the lye mixture and melted butters have reached 80-90°F, add the butters to the oil mixture and blend well.
  • Carefully add the lye solution and blend briefly with an immersion blender to start the emulsion process.
  • Continue blending until you reach trace (a pudding-like consistency). Be cautious not to over-blend.

5. Add the Essential Oil

6. Pour and Mold the Soap

  • Pour the soap batter into the mold.
  • Tap the mold gently on the counter to release any air bubbles.
  • Design the top as desired and spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash.

7. Curing Process

  • Place the mold in a cool oven overnight.
  • In the morning, remove from the oven and cover with plastic wrap to minimize soda ash formation.
  • Let the soap sit for 24-48 hours before unmolding.
  • To check if it’s ready to cut, gently pull the mold’s side and touch the soap. If it’s still too soft, wait another 24 hours.
  • Once firm, cut into bars and allow to cure for 4-6 weeks in a well-ventilated space.
